Introducing the Vicarious Insights Podcast
I am thrilled to introduce the first episode of the Vicarious Insights Podcast, an exciting series dedicated to exploring the multifaceted world of disabilities. As someone who started with preconceived notions and limited knowledge about disabilities, my journey has been transformative. Through my personal training business, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals with disabilities who have profoundly impacted my life, education, and career direction.
The Inspiration Behind Vicarious Insights
My journey began with the realisation that I didn’t know enough to assist my clients as best I could. Despite my best intentions, I often found myself unable to answer the questions posed by parents and supports. This lack of knowledge drove me to create a networking group where I could connect with other professionals, learn from their experiences, and better support my clients.
Attending a networking event run by the Nurses Collective was a turning point. I listened to conversations about the challenges and triumphs within the disability sector, from the emotional highs to the shocking lows. It became clear how much I needed to learn about the intricate world of disabilities, including the roles of providers, the complexities of regulations, and the impact of various practices on participants.
A Journey of Learning and Growth
The Vicarious Insights Podcast aims to bridge this knowledge gap. By interviewing experts, providers, participants, and supports, I hope to share valuable insights and stories that can help all of us better understand the disability sector. Each episode will delve into different aspects of disabilities, providing a platform for voices that need to be heard and stories that need to be shared.
Episode 1: A Conversation with Kyle Daya from BeActive Allied Health and Performance
In our first episode, I am joined by Kyle, the director of BeActive Allied Health and Performance. Kyle brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the table, sharing his experiences as an Exercise Physiologist. We discuss what an Exercise Physiologist does, the unique value they bring to the disability community, and how they help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals.
Kyle’s insights shed light on the importance of tailored exercise programs and the positive impact they can have on physical and mental well-being. His dedication to his clients and his field is truly inspiring, and I am excited to share our conversation with you. Regrettably, due to time restrictions, we had to cut out some amazing information, but we hope to cover these insights in future episodes.
